HOMEWOOD FIRE DEPARTMENT
RECEIVES FUNDING FOR FIREFIGHTER TRAINING

$8,000 Grant to Provide Training, Education for Firefighters

HOMEWOOD, Ala. (Dec. 11, 2007) – Firefighters spend their entire careers participating in on-going training and education. As new rescue methods are created, firefighters must learn them and adapt to ever-changing environments. Thanks to an $8,000 grant, Homewood firefighters will receive specific training in specialized rescues.

Robinson-Adams Insurance and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company teamed up to donate the money. It will fund training courses in hazardous materials, water rescues, confined space rescues, and structural collapse situations.

The majority of the money will go toward tuition, instructor fees, supplies, teaching aids, and overtime pay associated with participating in the training classes.

"Training is our first line of defense when it comes to safety and preparation," said Fire Chief John Bresnan. "This grant will enable us continue certain programs and expand others in order to ensure our rescuers stay up-to-date in the latest rescue techniques."

"These firefighters put their lives on the line every time they respond to an emergency and we’re proud to help do what we can to prepare them for those situations," said Andy Glenn with Robinson-Adams Insurance.

Chief Bresnan, local dignitaries, Homewood firefighters, and executives from Robinson-Adams Insurance and Fireman’s Fund will come together for a special public recognition event where the grant package will be presented:

Date / Time:
Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007
10:00 a.m.

Location:
Homewood Fire Dept.
2850 19th St. South
Homewood, AL

The grant package is part of a nationwide program called Fireman’s Fund Heritage® which is funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The program is designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire departments. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to hundreds of different departments totaling nearly $15 million. Independent insurance agencies that sell Fireman’s Fund products are able to direct these grants to support fire stations in their communities. Robinson-Adams Insurance was instrumental in directing this specific one to Homewood.
